Grand Sperone Beach
Best for. Swimmers and view lovers who want bright sand and clear water and will walk to reach it.
Best spot. Toward the eastern end, with the open view across to the islets and the Strait of Bonifacio.
Know this. There are no services on the sand, so plan to be self sufficient for the whole visit.
Grand Sperone is the larger of the two Sperone beaches near the southern tip of Corsica, a stretch of bright white sand and water that turns a startling turquoise in the sun. It sits close to its smaller sister, Petit Sperone, beyond Bonifacio and the famous Sperone golf course, and together they make one of the most beautiful corners of the whole island. Where the little cove is sheltered and intimate, Grand Sperone is more open, with long views across the strait toward the scattered islets.
The appeal is straightforward and hard to beat. The sand is pale enough to light up the shallows, the water is clear, and the scale of the beach gives you room to swim and walk in a way the smaller cove cannot. On a settled day the colour rivals anything in the Mediterranean, which is exactly why it draws people willing to make the short walk in.
Being more open, Grand Sperone reads the weather more than Petit Sperone does, so a breezy day brings a little more movement to the water. There is nothing on the sand by way of service, so this is a beach to arrive prepared for, with water, shade and food. Do that and you have one of the south's great swimming beaches largely to yourself outside the peak weeks.
Clubs on this beach
Grand Sperone is a natural beach with no club and little on the sand, and that simplicity is part of its charm. The surrounding Sperone area is upmarket, but you should not count on service at the beach itself. For clubs with daybeds and food, the Corsica directory is where to look.
No club on the sand
Grand Sperone is a natural beach. Any nearby refreshment is to be confirmed.
Bonifacio, Corsica
Grand Sperone lies near the southern tip of Corsica, beyond Bonifacio close to the Sperone golf estate and Petit Sperone. From Bonifacio it is a short drive and then a walk to the sand, with parking in the area rather than beside the beach.
As with the neighbouring cove, a car plus a short walk is the practical way in, and there is no public transport to the beach itself. Plan to carry in everything you need for the day.

Common questions about Grand Sperone
What is the difference between Grand Sperone and Petit Sperone?
Grand Sperone is the larger, more open beach with bright white sand and long views, while Petit Sperone is smaller, sheltered and more intimate. They sit side by side and many visitors see both in one day.
How do you reach Grand Sperone Beach?
You drive toward the Sperone area beyond Bonifacio, park nearby, and walk to the sand. The short walk keeps the beach quieter than a roadside spot would be.
Are there facilities at Grand Sperone?
Very few or none on the sand itself. Bring water, food and shade, and treat the beach as self service. The wider Sperone area is upmarket but not a substitute for arriving prepared.
Is Grand Sperone good for swimming?
On a calm day it is excellent, with clear, bright water over pale sand. It is more open than Petit Sperone, so a breeze brings more movement, and there is no lifeguard.
When should I visit Grand Sperone?
June and September give warm, clear water and thinner crowds than August. Calm, low wind days show the white sand and turquoise water at their best.
