Paleokastritsa Beach
Best for. Couples after a cinematic setting, where green cliffs fold into clear water and a small boat can carry you to a cove of your own.
Best spot. Hire a boat from the main bay to a quiet outer inlet, or take an early morning swim before the tour boats arrive.
Know this. The main coves are small and fill fast from late morning in summer, so the romance lives at the edges of the day.
Paleokastritsa is the picture most people carry of Corfu before they arrive, and for once the picture is honest. A headland crowned by a white monastery drops into a run of small coves where green cliffs and dark pine meet water so clear it looks lit from below. It is the most cinematic stretch on the island, and for a couple it is the one place that feels designed for a slow swim and a long look at the view.
What makes it work for two is the geography. There is not one beach here but several, gathered into folds of the coast, and the loveliest of them are reached by a short boat ride rather than the car park. Hire a small boat from the main bay, or take one of the trips out to the sea caves and quiet inlets, and you trade the busy organised sand for a cove you can have almost to yourselves. The water in the sheltered bays stays calm on a settled day, and the rocky edges are full of fish for a lazy snorkel.
The honest catch is the very popularity that the beauty earns. The main coves are small, and from late morning through the afternoon in July and August they fill with day trippers, boat tours and coaches, and the parking and the narrow approach road struggle with it. The romance does not disappear, it simply moves to the hours either side. Come for an early swim with the light still soft, or stay for the late afternoon when the boats have gone and the cliffs throw their shadow across the water, and Paleokastritsa hands you the version that put it on every postcard.
Clubs on this beach
Paleokastritsa is a cluster of natural coves rather than a club beach. The polished option sits just above the water at nearby Agia Triada, while the coves themselves run on tavernas and seasonal sunbeds. Minimum spends move with the season, so ask the venue when you enquire.

Northwest coast, Corfu
Paleokastritsa lies on the northwest coast, reached on the main road from Corfu Town in around forty five minutes, with the last stretch winding down through olive groves to the bays. The road is narrow in places, so take the descents gently and use the passing places.
A seasonal bus runs from Corfu Town in summer, which spares the parking scramble though it ties you to fixed times. With a car you can leave when the boats arrive or stay for the quiet late light, which is the smarter play for a couple here.

Common questions about Paleokastritsa
Is Paleokastritsa good for couples?
Yes, it is one of the most romantic settings in Corfu. The green cliffed coves and clear water are made for a slow swim, and the real magic is hiring a small boat to a quiet inlet the day trippers miss. Come early or late in the day to have the loveliest light to yourselves.
Which is the best cove at Paleokastritsa?
Agios Spiridon is the main organised cove with sunbeds and easy access, while Agia Triada and the smaller hidden inlets reward a short boat ride with calmer water and fewer people. For a couple, the quieter bays reached by boat are the ones to aim for.
How crowded does Paleokastritsa get?
The main coves get busy from late morning through the afternoon in July and August, when boat tours and coaches arrive. The bays are small, so they fill quickly. An early start or a late afternoon swim, plus a boat to an outer inlet, keeps the day calm and the water clear.
Is there a beach club at Paleokastritsa?
Akron Beach Bar sits above the bay at nearby Agia Triada, an upscale restaurant and beach bar with sunbeds, a pool and a fine view, chosen as much for the kitchen as the loungers. On the coves themselves you will find seasonal sunbed concessions rather than a full club.
Can you swim and snorkel at Paleokastritsa?
The water is clear and the rocky edges of the coves hold fish, so snorkelling is rewarding around the headlands in calm conditions. Conditions are typical rather than guaranteed and there is no promise of lifeguard cover, so read the day, stay near the shore and treat the sea as unsupervised.
