Cesme keeps a clear Aegean summer rhythm. The beach season runs from roughly May to October, the sea is warmest in late summer, and the crowds and prices peak hard in July and August before easing into a lovely, quieter September. The summers are hot and dry, the steady Meltemi wind blows through the season, and outside summer the beach clubs wind down while the sea turns too cool for a comfortable swim.

We have laid out the year month by month below, with a quick season grid and honest notes on the months that matter most. The headline is simple. June and September give you warm water, long days and far more space and value than the height of summer, with gentler heat too, which is why they are the months we point most people toward.

If you take one line from this page, take this. Aim for June or September for the best balance of warm sea, bearable heat, lighter crowds and fairer prices, accept July and August only if you want the warmest water and do not mind the heat, the cost and the crush, and plan around the Meltemi, which is a bonus at Pirlanta and a reason to choose a sheltered bay or an early swim elsewhere.

The notable months

When each month earns its place

May. The opening of the season and one of the loveliest months for a quiet, good value trip. The weather is warm and settled, the days are long and Alacati and the coast are uncrowded, though the sea is only just warming and a swim still bites. The Meltemi is beginning, so the wind sports start up at Pirlanta. For the markets, the food and near empty beaches, May is a gem if you accept cooler water.

June. One of the two sweet spots of the year. The sea has warmed to a pleasant swimming temperature, the days are at their longest and the heat is hot but not yet fierce, while the crowds, though building, are nowhere near the August peak. The Meltemi is steady and reliable, ideal for kitesurfing, and prices and pressure on the beaches are still reasonable, which makes June a superb all round time to come.

July. High summer, with hot, dry weather, warm sea and the busiest beaches of the year. This is when the Meltemi is strongest, a treat at Pirlanta and a breezy afternoon on the open sand, so plan calm swims for the morning or choose a sheltered bay. Expect peak prices and crowds, busy Ayayorgi clubs at weekends, and book accommodation well ahead as the peninsula fills.

August. The hottest, busiest and priciest month, when the sea is at its warmest but the beaches are packed and rooms cost the most. The heat can be intense by day and the Meltemi blows strong, so shade, water and an early start matter. It is a wonderful time to swim if you accept the crowds and the cost, but it is not the month for space, calm or value.

September. The other sweet spot and many travellers favourite month. The sea is still warm from a summer of heat, the crowds thin noticeably after the August peak and the heat softens to something very pleasant, while the Meltemi eases. Beach clubs are still open through most of the month, making September the ideal blend of warm water, gentler weather, breathing room and better prices.

October. The season winds down, but early October can still surprise with warm enough water for a swim and mild, pleasant days. Crowds are light and prices fall, the wind is lighter, though rain becomes more likely as the month goes on. A fine choice for a quiet, good value trip that mixes a few beach days with Alacati and sightseeing, if you are relaxed about the odd wet spell.

Good questions

Before you go

What is the best time to visit Cesme?

June and September are the best months overall, pairing warm sea and long days with lighter crowds, gentler heat and better value than the July and August peak. The sea is warmest in August and September, but the beaches and prices are at their height then. May and October are quieter and pleasant, though the sea is cooler at each end of the season.

When is the sea warm enough for swimming in Cesme?

The sea is comfortably warm for swimming from about June to October, reaching its warmest in August and September, and the shallow thermal bay at Ilica feels warmer than most. May can be swimmable for the hardy and early October still pleasant, but the water is cooler at the edges of the season and cold from late autumn to spring.

What is the Meltemi wind and when does it blow in Cesme?

The Meltemi is a steady northerly wind that builds most summer days around midday and eases at sunset, blowing from roughly May to September and strongest in July and August. It is a gift for kitesurfers and windsurfers at Pirlanta, but it makes the open beaches breezy in the afternoon, so for calm water pick a sheltered bay or swim in the morning.

Which months are the most crowded and expensive in Cesme?

July and August are the busiest and priciest months, when Turkish and European holidays fill the peninsula and the Ayayorgi clubs and Ilica sand get very busy, especially at weekends. Travel in June or September for warm water with more space and fairer prices, or in May and October for quiet at the cost of a cooler sea.

Is it worth visiting Cesme outside summer?

For Alacati, the markets, the food and the scenery, the shoulder months of May and October are mild, pleasant and far less crowded, and better value. For beach days and swimming, though, you really want June to September, when the sea is warm and the beach clubs are open. Conditions are typical and never guaranteed.
