When each month earns its place
April. April is often the smartest single month. It still sits in the dry season, the sea is calm and clear and the diving visibility is superb, and the winter crowds ease as the month goes on. You get reliable sun and gentle west coast water without the holiday prices or the deepest summer humidity.
July and August. Midsummer is hot, humid and quieter on the sand, with very warm water and good days between the showers. It is the start of the more changeable season, so watch the forecast and keep plans flexible, but the value improves and the reefs are still excellent when the sea behaves.
September. September is the quietest and cheapest month, and for a flexible traveller it can be a peaceful time to have the beaches almost to yourself. The catch is that it sits at the heart of the hurricane season, so you accept a higher chance of a wet or disrupted day, and some venues and tours run reduced hours. Travel insurance and a relaxed plan help a lot.
November and December. November dries out as Pirates Week fills the islands with parades and music, a lively shoulder month with improving weather. December then delivers the dry season at its best, with sunny, calm days and clear water, which is exactly why it is so popular, so prices and crowds climb steeply towards Christmas and New Year and you should book well ahead.
