A short train ride from Lisbon
Praia da Poca sits at Sao Joao do Estoril, a few minutes' walk from the Estoril train station on the Cascais line that runs along the coast from Lisbon's Cais do Sodre. The beach is right beside the Marginal coast road, so you can arrive by train in around half an hour from the city, by car with some summer parking hunting, or on foot along the promenade from Estoril or Cascais.
This is one of the easiest beaches to reach on the whole coast, which is its charm for a spontaneous afternoon. Bring sun cover for the compact sand, wear something on your feet for the rockier edges, and settle in the sheltered centre for the calmest water.
