  • Best spot: A spot toward the quieter end of the long sand for room and calm, with a beach restaurant nearby for lunch and a lounger when you want shade and service.
  • Know this: This is the longest and one of the sandiest beaches on the peninsula, calmer than Gumbet, so come for soft sand, shallow water and a relaxed family day rather than nightlife.

The honest read

Ortakent, with its beach district of Yahsi, is the answer on the Bodrum peninsula for anyone who wants real, soft sand and a lot of it. At close to two kilometres it is the longest beach on the peninsula, and unlike the shingle and club platforms of the bays nearer town, much of it is genuine open sand that shelves gently into shallow water. That combination of length, sand and shallow sea makes it a natural family beach and a calmer alternative to Gumbet a short drive away.

The pace here is relaxed. There is room to spread out a towel away from the crowds even in high summer, the shallow water warms quickly and is easy for children, and a string of beach restaurants along the shore means lunch and a lounger are never far when you want them. The open beach also catches the afternoon breeze, which has made Yahsi a favourite for windsurfing, so there is a little gentle energy on the water without the churn of jet skis you get in the party bays.

The honest note is that Ortakent trades buzz for space. It is quieter and less polished than the resort beaches near Bodrum town, the development behind is low key, and if you want nightlife on your doorstep you will not find it here. For some that is exactly the point. If you want a long sandy beach with shallow water, room to breathe and a relaxed lunch on the sand, Ortakent Yahsi is the most rewarding beach day on the peninsula, and the closest thing to a classic sandy beach Bodrum offers.

Getting there and essentials

Ortakent and its Yahsi beach district sit in the middle of the south coast of the Bodrum peninsula, a short drive from Bodrum town. Most visitors arrive by car, taxi or the frequent dolmus minibus that serves the peninsula villages, with a road leading down from Ortakent village to the seafront at Yahsi. Conditions are typical and never guaranteed.

There is parking near the seafront, though it fills in peak season, so arriving earlier helps. To settle in comfortably you can take a lounger at a beach restaurant and eat there, or use the free open sand and bring your own shade, and head toward the quieter ends of the long beach if you want more room.
