Bitez is the bay people move to when Bodrum town and Gumbet feel too loud. Set just west of the centre and backed by the tangerine groves that the village is known for, it is a long sheltered bay where the water is calm and shallow and the pace is deliberately slow. The seafront is a near continuous run of beach restaurants and clubs whose wooden platforms reach out over the water, so the classic Bitez day is less about a towel on wide sand and more about a lounger and a long lunch by the sea.
That relaxed character is the appeal. Because the bay is sheltered and the water gentle, it suits families and couples who want easy swimming and a meal on the water rather than a party, and the afternoon breeze that funnels across the bay has made Bitez a quiet favourite for windsurfing. You can drift between a swim, a plate of mezze on a shaded platform and an afternoon on the water, and the village behind keeps everything within an easy walk. It is comfortable and unhurried in a way central Bodrum is not.
The honest note is to come for what Bitez is. Much of the frontage is club platform rather than open public sand, so you will usually pay for a lounger or eat at a venue to settle in comfortably, and it is shingle in places rather than soft sand. If you want wild nightlife, Gumbet next door delivers it, and if you want a long empty sandy beach, Ortakent is the better bet. But for a calm bay, a relaxed lunch on the water and easy swimming near Bodrum, Bitez is one of the most pleasant choices on the peninsula.
Bitez is lined with independent beach restaurants and clubs along the bay rather than dominated by one venue. We describe the setting factually and route enquiries through our directory; we never invent venues, minimum spends or amenities.
The bay is fronted by beach restaurants and cafes with loungers and shaded platforms over the water, the usual way to spend a Bitez day. Their names, menus, lounger charges and any minimum spend are set by the venues and to be confirmed.
Some frontage is run as beach clubs with loungers and music, and windsurfing and watersports rental operate from the bay in season. Their rates, hours and conditions are independent and to be confirmed.
Bitez lies just west of Bodrum town on the south side of the peninsula, a short drive or dolmus minibus ride from the centre. Most visitors arrive by car, taxi or the frequent dolmus that serves the resort villages, and the bay is also an easy stop on a boat trip along the coast. Conditions are typical and never guaranteed.
Parking near the seafront is limited in peak season, so the dolmus is often easier. To settle in comfortably you will usually take a lounger at a beach restaurant or club and eat there, so choose your spot along the bay, and head for the quieter western end if you want more room away from the busier centre.
Tell us your date and party and we will point you to the right beach club style venues along Bitez bay and the wider Bodrum peninsula, with the calm water and waterfront dining the bay is known for. No charge to enquire.
Yes. Bitez is one of the calmer, more family friendly bays near Bodrum, with sheltered shallow water and a relaxed pace, and the waterfront restaurants make a day with children easy. It is the quieter neighbour of party loud Gumbet next door.
Bitez is a mix of sand and fine shingle, with much of the seafront given over to beach restaurant and club platforms. Water shoes help on the shingle stretches and at entry points, and there is open public shoreline as well as club frontage.
Bitez is the calm, relaxed, family friendly bay with quiet evenings and dining on the water, while Gumbet next door is the lively party beach with watersports and nightlife. Many visitors choose Bitez for the day and head to Gumbet for the night out.
Yes. The afternoon breeze that crosses the bay has made Bitez a long standing windsurfing spot, with rental and lessons from operators on the bay in season. Their hours, rates and conditions are to be confirmed.
The shoreline is publicly accessible, but most of the comfortable frontage is run by beach restaurants and clubs that charge for loungers or expect you to eat and drink. Their rates and any minimum spend are set by the venues and to be confirmed.
