If you would rather sip and sway than pose, the bohemian clubs and the quieter island and Riviera spots give you the same beautiful water and a softer, friendlier scene for a fraction of the drama. There is no wrong choice here, only the wrong club for your kind of day.

Book ahead and read the terms. In July and August the best sunbeds at the famous clubs sell out and many run on a minimum spend for prime positions, especially for sunset and weekends, so reserve early and ask exactly what your booking includes. The shoulder months of June and September give you warm seas, full opening and far thinner crowds, which is why they are our favourite time to go. Mind the wind and the water. Several of these clubs sit on north facing beaches that catch the meltemi, the strong summer wind of the Aegean, which can turn a glassy bay choppy in an afternoon.
