Erchie is the kind of place the coast road almost hides. A frazione of Maiori tucked between headlands on the way to Cetara, it is a tiny fishing hamlet wrapped around a small cove, watched over by the old Torre La Cerniola tower and the remains of a medieval abbey on the rocks. There is no resort here, just boats, a few houses and a sliver of sand.
The honest read is that the charm and the catch are the same thing: it is small and not easy to reach. The road down is narrow, parking is scarce, and the beach is little, so it stays local and unhurried for most of the year. In the peak weeks of July and August even this quiet cove fills, because there is so little of it, and facilities are basic rather than polished.
Come for a slow, simple day with clear water and a real fishing village feel, ideally by boat or bus rather than car, and bring your own shade and snacks. If you want more space and amenities, Maiori is a short hop west; for seafood and working village character carry on to Cetara; and for ceramics and the gateway town go further to Vietri sul Mare.
Erchie is a free fishing cove with only limited sunbed hire, not a club beach. For full beach club service nearby, see our Amalfi Coast beach clubs directory.
Most of Erchie is free public sand by the fishing boats, where you can lay a towel at no charge under the watchtower. It is tiny and fills in peak summer, so arrive early; this is a village cove rather than a club beach.
Where available, a small amount of paid sunbed and umbrella hire operates in season. Operators and rates are to be confirmed, so check locally; for full beach club service, Maiori and the wider coast are a short hop away.
Erchie lies on the coast road between Maiori and Cetara, reached down a narrow lane to the shore. The SITA coast buses stop on the road above, and in summer the easiest and prettiest arrival is by boat, which spares you the tight road and scarce parking.
If you do drive, go early, as the few spaces fill fast and the lane is awkward at busy times. Bring sun protection, water and snacks, because the hamlet has only a handful of small cafes, and there is little shade on the sand itself.
Erchie is a mostly free fishing cove, but tell us your date and party and we will point you to sunbed hire and full beach clubs along the coast. No charge to enquire.
Yes, if you want a quiet, local cove with clear water and real fishing village character. It is small and simple rather than glossy, which is exactly why it stays calmer than the resort beaches nearby.
Largely, yes. Most of the cove is free public sand by the boats, with only limited paid sunbed hire where available. It is tiny, so arrive early in summer for a space.
By coast bus to the road above, by boat in summer, or by car down a narrow lane with very limited parking. Many visitors find arriving by boat or bus the easiest option in peak season.
Yes, the water is clear and usually calm in the sheltered cove, easy for a swim close to shore. Lifeguard cover is limited, so swim with normal care, as conditions are usually settled but never guaranteed.
June and September bring warm, settled sea and a quieter cove, before and after the short July and August peak when even this small beach fills on hot days.
