Skiathos is a small, busy island in summer, but it still hides real seclusion for anyone willing to take a boat or walk a path. The wild northeast keeps a cliff backed pebble beach reachable only from the water, and the northwest holds sandy coves you can only reach on foot through a protected pine forest. The trade is always the same. You give up shade, shops and lifeguards, and you get space, dramatic scenery and a quiet that the road served beaches lose by mid morning.

Below we rank the most secluded beaches on how remote they feel, the effort the access takes and how wild the setting is. We are honest about which are genuinely cut off and which are simply quieter than the resort sand, and we never promise safety, because the open coast has swell and the boat beaches have deep water and no watch. Conditions are typical rather than guaranteed, so read the sea, swim within your limits, and carry everything back out with you.

The ranking

Ranked for seclusion

Scored on how remote it feels, the effort of the access and the wildness of the setting.

1
Northeast coast

Lalaria

The wild heart of secluded Skiathos. A long bay of smooth white pebbles under a near vertical cliff, famous for the Tripia Petra rock arch and clear blue green water, reachable only by boat from the old port. No road, no facilities and no walking path down, which is exactly what keeps it dramatic and quiet. Deep clear water and no lifeguard, so it is for confident swimmers.

2
Northwest coast

Mandraki

A sandy cove with light blue water reached on foot through a rare protected pine forest, around a kilometre and twenty five minutes from the bus stop. The walk in is the filter that keeps it far quieter than the road served beaches, and the forest itself is a genuine biotope. Bring water and proper shoes, as facilities are minimal and seasonal.

3
Southwest coast

Little Banana

The smaller, quieter cove tucked around the headland from busy Banana beach, naturist friendly and far more private than its larger neighbour. The short scramble over the rocks keeps the crowds on the main beach, leaving a small sheltered bay of soft sand and clear water. Come early, as it is small and the space goes quickly in peak.

4
West coast

Agia Eleni

Not remote, but quieter than the south coast resort beaches and a fine choice if you want calm without a boat. A sandy west coast bay loved for its sunsets, with some facilities and easier access than the wild beaches. It catches the afternoon wind, which is the honest catch, so come earlier in the day for the calmer, more peaceful version.

How to find the quiet

A few honest pointers. For true wildness, Lalaria is unbeatable, and the boat is the whole experience, so go early on the day trip and check the last return so you are not stranded or rushed. Mandraki gives you the same earned quiet for the price of a forest walk, and it is the better choice if you would rather sand than pebbles and a shaded approach to the heat. Little Banana is the easy win, a short scramble from a busy beach into a far more private cove, and Agia Eleni is the no effort option when you simply want calmer than the resort sand.

Now the honest steer away. Do not expect seclusion from the headline beaches. Koukounaries, Banana and Platanias are beautiful and well run, but they are busy by design and built for crowds, which is the opposite of what this list is for. They are good at what they do, but if it is quiet you want, take the boat to Lalaria or walk into Mandraki, go at the edges of the day, and bring everything you need, because the wild beaches give you space and take away the shops.

Good questions

Before you go

Which is the most secluded beach in Skiathos?

Lalaria on the northeast coast is the standout. Backed by a near vertical cliff and famous for its smooth white pebbles and the Tripia Petra rock arch, it is reached only by boat, which keeps it wild and free of road crowds. Mandraki, a sandy cove reached on foot through a rare pine forest, is the close runner up.

Are there secluded Skiathos beaches you have to walk to?

Yes, and the walk is what keeps them quiet. Mandraki is reached on a path of around a kilometre through a protected pine forest from the bus stop, roughly twenty five minutes on foot, and the little coves nearby take the same approach. The effort thins the crowds, so wear proper shoes, carry water, and treat the walk as part of the day.

How do you get to Lalaria beach?

Only by boat. Day trips and water taxis run from Skiathos old port, a trip of roughly thirty to forty minutes that often takes in the sea caves on the way. There is no road and no walking path down the cliff, so you go with a boat and you come back with it. Check the last return time before you settle in.

Are the secluded Skiathos beaches good for swimming?

It varies. Lalaria has clear deep water over smooth pebbles and no lifeguard, so it suits confident swimmers and water shoes help on the stones. The walk in coves are calmer and sandier. Read the sea and the wind before you go in, swim within your limits, and remember conditions are typical rather than guaranteed.

Do the secluded Skiathos beaches have any facilities?

Few, and that is the point. Lalaria has no facilities at all, so you bring everything and carry it back out. The walk in beaches may have a simple seasonal canteen with hours that vary and are to be confirmed, but expect little shade and no shops. Bring water, sun cover and anything you need for the day.
