Vendicari is not one beach but a whole protected coast, a reserve of wild sand, shallow salt pans and migrating birds strung between Noto and Marzamemi. The landmarks are an old watchtower and the haunting ruins of a tonnara, the historic tuna fishery on the shore. It is one of the most atmospheric stretches of coast in Sicily, and it feels a world away from the lido strips.
The swimming happens at several wild beaches inside the reserve, among them the long sand at Eloro, the beach beside the tonnara, and Marianelli further south. All are reached on foot along reserve paths, so you trade easy parking and snack bars for space, dunes and birdsong. In spring and autumn the salt pans fill with flamingos and waders, and the walking is as much the point as the swim.
The honest part is that this is a reserve first and a beach second. There are no lidos, little shade and only basic facilities, and the more open beaches can pick up wind and swell when a sheltered cove would stay calm. Distances between car parks and sand are real, so the wrong shoes or too little water will spoil the day. In peak August it is popular too, even if it never feels like Fontane Bianche.
Who should skip it: anyone who wants loungers, a bar and a five minute stroll from the car, who will prefer the serviced beaches up the coast. Who should go: walkers, birdwatchers and beachgoers happy to earn a wild, scenic swim. Pair it with the sheltered cove of Calamosche inside the same reserve, or the easy sand of San Lorenzo nearby.
Vendicari is a protected reserve, so there are no beach clubs or lidos on its sand and none are allowed. For loungers, service and a bookable beach day, use the Sicily club directory and the serviced beaches outside the reserve.
Vendicari lies on the southeast coast of Sicily between Noto and Marzamemi, with several signed entrances and car parks serving different beaches such as Eloro, the tonnara and Marianelli. A car is by far the easiest way to reach the gates, from which footpaths lead to the sand.
Check the current reserve opening hours before you go, as they change by season, and come early for parking and the quietest beaches. Wear proper shoes for the paths, carry plenty of water and your own shade, and allow time, since the walk between car park and sea is part of the experience.
Tell us the day and the party, and we will match you to a beach club near Vendicari and pass your request straight to the team.

Very few. The reserve has paths, gates and bird hides but no lidos on the sand, little shade and only basic services, so bring all the water, food and sun cover you need.
Often, yes. The salt pans attract flamingos, herons and many migrating waders, especially in spring and autumn, which makes the reserve as rewarding for birdwatching as for swimming.
May, June and September are ideal, with warm clear water, active birdlife and lighter crowds than peak August. Come early in the day for parking and quiet beaches.
