Muscat keeps a simple, steady calendar. The sea is warm all year and the rain barely registers, so the season is set by the heat alone. From October to April the days are comfortable and the coast is at its loveliest, while the high summer from June to September turns fierce, pushing beach life into the cool edges of the day. Get the season right and Muscat is a serene, restorative shore; get it wrong and the middle of the day belongs to the air conditioning.
We have set out the year month by month below, with a quick season grid and honest notes on the months that matter. The headline is easy to remember. The cool season from October to April is when you come for long, comfortable beach days, with the gentlest weather over the European winter.
If you take one line from this page, take this. Aim for December to February for the softest heat and the finest beach weather, treat October and April as warm, quieter shoulders, and if you must come in summer, surrender to the rhythm of a dawn swim, a shaded rest and an evening return to the water.

When each month earns its place
January. The heart of the cool season and the finest beach weather of the year. Mild, clear days make a long morning on Qurum or a boat day from Qantab genuinely comfortable, and the sea is warm without the summer fierceness. It is the busiest month as European visitors arrive, so the popular sands fill at the weekend and prices sit at their highest, but the conditions are worth it.
February. Arguably the most pleasant month overall. The weather stays mild and settled, the sea is calm and clear and the crowds ease a little from the January peak. For a slow, restorative stay built around early swims and quiet afternoons, February gives you the gentlest combination of warm water and comfortable air on the whole calendar.
April. The cool season tips toward summer. Days turn hot but remain bearable, especially early and late, and the winter crowds thin out, which makes it a good warm shoulder for anyone who wants quiet sand and lower prices. Take the water in the morning and seek shade by midday as the heat begins to assert itself.
July. Deep summer, fierce and humid, with daytime heat past forty degrees that keeps the beach to the cool edges of the day. The sea is bath warm and lovely at dawn and after sunset, and the coast is at its quietest and cheapest. Come only if you will live by the early and late rhythm and rest through the blazing middle of the day.
October. The turning point as the heat finally breaks. The days ease back to a warm, comfortable level, the sea stays inviting and the season reopens before the winter crowds arrive. Early October still carries real heat, but by the end of the month Muscat is settling into its best self again, which makes it a quietly rewarding time to visit.

What is the best time to visit Muscat for the beach?
October to April is the cool season and the best time, with warm calm sea and comfortable days for the beach. December to February are the most pleasant months, while October and April are warmer shoulders either side. The summer from June to September is intensely hot, so beach time shrinks to the early morning and evening.
How hot is Muscat in summer?
Very hot. Through June to September daytime temperatures regularly climb past forty degrees, with high humidity along the coast that makes the middle of the day uncomfortable outdoors. The sea is warm and still inviting, so locals swim at dawn and after sunset and stay out of the sun in between. Plan summer beach time around the cool hours.
Does it rain much in Muscat?
Rain is rare. Muscat sees only a handful of wet days a year, mostly brief winter showers between December and March, and the occasional heavier system that can cause flash flooding in the wadis. For the beach this means timing is about heat rather than rain, since clear skies are the norm across the season.
Is the sea warm enough to swim year round in Muscat?
Yes. The Gulf of Oman stays warm all year, dipping only to a mild low in the cool months and turning bath warm through summer. Swimming is comfortable every month, so the question is the air temperature rather than the water. The most pleasant combination of warm sea and comfortable air falls in the cool season.
Which months are the least crowded in Muscat?
The summer months from June to September are the quietest, as the heat keeps visitors away, though the beaches are only really usable early and late in the day. The shoulder weeks of October and April offer warm weather with lighter crowds than the winter peak, when European visitors fill the cool season and prices rise.
