Candy striped theatre and butler service on the calmest glamour in Miami Beach.

The verdict

  • Book ifYou want a serviced, design driven day on wide Mid Beach sand with butler attention, and you like that day guests can take a chaise or an oceanfront daybed without booking a room
  • Skip ifYou came to Miami for a DJ party on the sand, because this is a hushed, moneyed hotel beach rather than a teepee and Sunday session scene
  • One thing to knowThe candy striped umbrellas everyone photographs live around the guest pool, so a day guest on the beach gets the service and the space but not that exact postcard

Faena Beach is the shoreline of a total design statement. The Faena Hotel and the wider Faena District were built as a single theatrical vision, all deep reds and golds, Juan Gatti murals and the famous gilded mammoth in the lobby, and the beach carries that same maximalist confidence out onto the sand. The signature is the row of red and white striped umbrellas that photographers and magazines have made shorthand for the property, a piece of set design as much as shade. Where much of Miami Beach sells cool minimalism, Faena sells drama, and it commits to it from the porte cochere to the waterline.

Our honest position, the same one we hold on the Miami club directory, is that this city runs on hotel beaches, and the important question is always whether a non guest can actually get in. At Faena the answer is yes, with a published day rate for chairs and beds, which lifts it above the properties that quietly keep the sand for residents.

The honest read

How the day actually plays out

The style is the whole experience, so read it before you book. Faena runs on service rather than spectacle: beach butlers arrive with fruit infused water, light bites and cool towels, the chaises are dressed and spaced with care, and the mood is calm, adult and quietly expensive. Mid Beach gives it a wide, well groomed run of pale Atlantic sand, less packed than the South Beach strip a few minutes south, and the Faena District behind you is one of the most considered pieces of design in the city. If your idea of a good beach day is being looked after on a beautiful set, this delivers.

What the photographs do not tell you is where the icons actually sit. The candy striped umbrellas and cabanas that define the property in every feed cluster around the guest pool, not the public beach, so a day guest paying the chaise rate gets the butler and the sand but not that precise shot. The pool itself is the hotel’s space, reserved for people with a room. It is worth knowing before you arrive expecting to lay your towel under the famous stripes.

The other honest notes are structural. This is a rental model, not a party, so there is no DJ building a scene and no walk up energy after five when service winds down. The beach faces east on the Atlantic, which means big morning light and warm all year water but no sunset over the sea, and the day rates sit at the top of the Miami range before you have bought a drink. Come for the polish and the calm, not for a night out on the sand.

The sand it sits on

Mid Beach, Miami Beach

Mid Beach is the stretch of Collins Avenue where the crowds thin and the architecture turns from Art Deco South Beach into a run of design hotels and residential towers. The public sand here is wide and well kept, backed by the beach walk that runs for miles, and the Atlantic is warm and swimmable through the year with the usual city beach caveats about currents and flags. Faena holds one of the better positioned frontages on it. Our full Mid Beach guide covers the swimming, the walk and how this quieter stretch compares with South Beach.

Getting there and booking

The practical part

Faena sits at 3201 Collins Avenue in Mid Beach, a short taxi or rideshare north of South Beach and straightforward to reach from the Venetian and MacArthur causeways off the mainland. Valet parking at the hotel is the simplest option if you drive, since street parking along Collins is tight and metered. Because the beach chairs and daybeds are first come for day guests, the practical move is to call ahead on a busy weekend or holiday to check availability rather than turning up and hoping a front position is open.

Prefer to have it lined up before you go? Drop the date you have in mind and your headcount in the fields below, and we will raise it with Faena for you, reporting back on what day guest access looks like for that date, the chaise or daybed rate and any conditions, at no charge to you.

Asked on the sand

Faena Beach questions, answered

Can you use Faena Beach without staying at the hotel?

Yes. Faena publishes day guest rates for its beach chairs and daybeds on a first come basis, so you do not need a room to spend the day on the sand. The pool, by contrast, is the guest space, and the celebrated candy striped umbrellas that people photograph most sit around that pool rather than on the beach itself.

How much is a daybed or chaise at Faena Beach in Miami?

Faena lists a chaise lounge at 250 dollars on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and 150 dollars from Monday to Thursday, while an oceanfront daybed with two chaise lounges is 500 dollars any day. The hotel notes prices can move with occupancy and holidays, so confirm the figure for your date when you book.

What are the hours at Faena Beach?

Beach service at Faena runs from 10:30 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon, food and beverage service from noon to 5, and the pool opens earlier at 8. The beach faces east on the Atlantic, so the strong light and the best swimming sit in the first half of the day rather than at sunset.

What is Faena Beach like compared with a party club?

It is a serviced, design led hotel beach rather than a DJ driven party. The mood is calm and butler attended, with fruit infused water, light bites and a quiet, moneyed polish, not teepees and Sunday sessions on the sand. For a livelier scene the standalone Nikki Beach at the south end of South Beach is the better match.

Where is Faena Beach located?

Faena Beach fronts the Faena Hotel at 3201 Collins Avenue in the Mid Beach stretch of Miami Beach, part of the Faena District. It is north of the South Beach crowds and set on a wide, groomed run of Atlantic sand, an easy taxi from South Beach or the causeways.
