Camp de Mar is the southwest coast in a calmer, smarter register. Tucked into the Andratx municipality just beyond Santa Ponsa and Peguera, it is a small horseshoe cove of soft golden sand with clear, sheltered water and an unmistakable centrepiece: a tiny rocky island a short way offshore, crowned by a restaurant and joined to the beach by a low wooden footbridge. That single image is why people remember Camp de Mar, and the lunch out there lives up to the postcard.
The beach is compact, and that is the whole story of the place. It is good looking, well kept and quietly upmarket, backed by a couple of hotels and low key cafes rather than a strip of bars. The water is gentle enough for children and clear enough to enjoy a mask and snorkel along the rocks at either side. Because it is small, it has a ceiling on how many people it can hold, which is both its charm and its problem in August.
Who it suits is couples and families who want a pretty, low fuss cove with a proper lunch and a calmer crowd. Who should skip it is anyone needing a big beach with watersports and space to roam, because Camp de Mar runs out of sand quickly on a hot day. Come early, or come in June or September, and it is one of the most pleasant small beaches on this coast.

Camp de Mar is not a daybed club beach. Its signature experience is the island restaurant Illeta on the footbridge, with a couple of relaxed cafes behind the sand. For formal beach clubs, see our Mallorca beach clubs directory.
The island restaurant out on the rocks, reached by the wooden footbridge, is the defining table at Camp de Mar. Seafood and a long lunch with water on every side. Booking ahead is wise in season; menu and prices to be confirmed.
Camp de Mar is roughly 30 to 35 minutes by car from Palma airport, reached on the road past Santa Ponsa and Peguera in the Andratx municipality. Buses serve it less frequently than the bigger resorts, so a car gives you the easiest day.
Parking is the main constraint, so use the village and hotel car parks and walk the short distance to the sand. Bring water, sun cream and a mask if you fancy the rocks, and book the island restaurant ahead if a long lunch is the plan.

The island restaurant. A tiny rocky islet just offshore carries a restaurant reached by a wooden footbridge, so you can have a long seafood lunch with the sea on every side. The cove itself is small, calm and good looking, which suits a slower day.
Yes. The water is sheltered, clear and gentle, and the cove is easy to supervise because it is compact. The only caveat is space: it fills fast in August, so come early. Always check the daily lifeguard flags before swimming.
The rocky edges on both sides of the cove give reasonable snorkelling when the water is clear. Bring your own mask, enter gently from the sand, and keep an eye on conditions, which are only ever typical rather than guaranteed.
Restaurant Illeta is the signature experience here and the reason many people make the trip. Expect seafood and a memorable setting on the footbridge island. Book ahead in summer; the menu and prices are best confirmed directly.
June and September are ideal: warm water and far more room than the tight August peak. Whenever you come, an early arrival is wise because the cove is small and parking is limited.
