Little Beach House Malibu opened in 2016 in an oceanside building at 22716 Pacific Coast Highway, on the stretch of Carbon Beach where the houses cost more than most hotels earn in a decade. Behind the modest frontage sit two floors of floor to ceiling glass with retractable doors, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, a pair of terraces looking across the water toward Malibu Pier and the mountains, a rotating collection of contemporary art, and a members restaurant whose menu leans on seasonal California produce and Aegean inspired dishes. The formula is deliberately small: a clubhouse for the town rather than a stage for it.

It anchors the top of our Malibu club directory because it is the only true club on this coastline, and it comes with the directory’s largest asterisk. Everything below the tide line is public sand and everything behind the glass is members only, so this page is less a booking guide than an honest account of what the door costs and who it opens for.

Quiet, mostly, and quiet is the rarest commodity in this town. The admission process asks applicants to show a genuine connection to Malibu, which means the room fills with people who live here rather than people passing through to be seen, and the mood follows: breakfast meetings by the fireplace, a slow lunch as the doors slide back, wellness and music programming built for regulars. A member can bring three guests, so the club functions as the town’s de facto dining room for people whose own dining rooms are photographed from the sand.

The building does the rest. Two terraces hang over the water with sightlines from Carbon toward Surfrider, the glass opens fully on warm days, and the art collection gives the lounges more personality than the beige oceanfront norm. The kitchen’s Aegean thread is a quietly clever fit for a room that lives on olive light and sea air.

Where it falls short is simple and absolute: you cannot try it. There is no tasting visit, no public Sunday, no fee that substitutes for approval, and a card from one of the group’s other cities only earns the right to apply again. For a traveller the club is scenery. We would also note the arithmetic without flinching: at 1,700 dollars a quarter the entry price of belonging runs to 6,800 dollars a year before a single plate arrives, which buys a great many terrace lunches at the bookable places nearby.

The strip below the terraces is the famous one, nicknamed Billionaires Beach and legally walkable by anyone below the mean high tide line. Public accessways thread between the houses, the sand firms up beautifully at low water, and the pier makes a natural turnaround for a morning walk. The clubhouse sits directly on Pacific Coast Highway a short drive east of Malibu Pier, about half an hour from Santa Monica when the highway behaves. Members handle arrival arrangements with the club directly, and parking details are not published, so treat them as to be confirmed. Admission itself runs through the club’s site: an application, a Malibu connection to demonstrate, and patience, with existing cardholders elsewhere applying separately for the Malibu addition.
