Laut Biru

Most beach venues import their look. Laut Biru grew its own: the structure was designed around driftwood gathered from the very shore it stands on, so the timber carries the bay’s weathering in its grain and the building reads as if the beach assembled itself into a restaurant. The name translates as blue sea, and the architecture takes the hint, keeping every sightline open to the water across a beachfront deck, airy indoor and outdoor dining rooms and a final rank of tables standing directly in the sand.

A November 2025 guide from a luxury villa publisher called it one of the most elegant beach clubs on the island and pointed to its bonfire dinners as the highlight, which matches what the design has been saying all along: this is a place built for the hours when the light performs.

Judge it first as a piece of design, because that is the promise on the label. The driftwood is not decoration nailed on afterwards; it is the material logic of the whole building, and it gives Laut Biru something newer venues on this coast cannot buy, a patina that already belongs to the bay. Where the glossy south coast clubs photograph best from a drone, this one photographs best from a chair: the frame of silvered timber, the deck line, then the long green hills that close the horseshoe. Come between 4pm and dinner and the low sun turns the whole room the colour of the wood.

The kitchen runs wider than the building suggests. One menu covers Vietnamese calamari salad at IDR 70k, sasak dishes like manuk pelalah at 85k, four pizzas around 80k to 90k, and a snapper burger at 95k, with a separate kids menu, a dessert card and a drinks list of coffees, cocktails, beer and wine. The local pages are the strong ones: ragi rajang ala ketare, a Lombok fish in yellow sauce at 95k, is the plate that belongs to this coast. Breakfast stops at 10am, which matters because the morning deck, before the surf schools fill the bay, is the most photogenic hour of the day.

The shortfalls are the flip side of the taste. There is no pool, no daybed line and no late set, the lights go out at 9pm, so anyone wanting a club day in the Bali sense will find the volume knob missing. The menus on the venue’s site are dated June 2024, so treat every figure as last printed rather than gospel and expect movement. And the 20 percent tax and service line is easy to miss at the bottom of the card; on a family dinner it is the difference between a fair bill and a surprised one.

The bay itself is the reason to make the drive: a protected curve of pale sand where the water stays shallow and readable long after other south coast beaches turn to surf, which is why the beginner boards gather here. Selong Belanak lies west of Kuta Lombok along the winding south coast road, and the venue’s address is on Jalan Sempiak at the bay. The drive over the hills is part of the outing, and scooters and cars both make it easily in dry season; parking arrangements at the beach are informal and to be confirmed on the day.
