Aguas Blancas, written Aigues Blanques in Catalan, is the dramatic cliff backed beach of Ibiza's wild northeast coast near Sant Carles. Tall clay coloured cliffs rise behind a ribbon of soft darker sand, reached by a steep flight of steps down from the headland. It faces open sea, so the water is clear and often livelier than the island's sheltered family bays, and the whole place carries a free bohemian spirit that has drawn an alternative crowd for decades.
This is a natural beach with a famously laid back, clothing optional mood, especially toward the far end. A simple beach bar perched on the cliff serves drinks and plates with a long view over the water, and that is about the extent of the facilities. There are no rows of daybeds and no club music, just the cliffs, the sea and a sunrise that regulars climb down early to catch.
The honest caveat is the access and the exposure. The stairway is steep and unsuitable for anyone with limited mobility or very young children, shade is limited as the cliffs turn, and a northeast wind can churn the water and shrink the sand. Come for the wild scenery and the free spirited calm, not for an easy family paddle.
Who it suits: confident swimmers, sunrise chasers and free spirited travellers happy with a steep walk and a natural setting.
Who should skip it: families with toddlers, anyone with mobility needs and beachgoers wanting daybeds, shade or guaranteed calm water.

Aguas Blancas questions
Is Aguas Blancas good for families?
Not especially. A steep stairway leads down from the cliff, the beach faces open sea that can be lively, and shade is limited. Confident older swimmers will enjoy it, but families with toddlers will find the sheltered east coast bays far easier.
Is Aguas Blancas a naturist beach?
It is partly naturist, with a long standing clothing optional tradition that is strongest toward the far end of the sand. The mood is relaxed and bohemian, and swimwear is equally fine across most of the beach.
Does Aguas Blancas have a beach club?
No. A single simple beach bar sits on the cliff serving drinks and food with a sea view, but there are no daybeds and no club scene. The appeal is the wild natural setting rather than any venue.
How do you get to Aguas Blancas?
Drive about 35 minutes from Ibiza Town to the northeast coast near Sant Carles, park at the cliff top, then take the steep stairway down to the sand. The steps make it unsuitable for anyone with limited mobility.
Is the water calm at Aguas Blancas?
Often it is clear and swimmable, but the beach faces open sea on the exposed northeast coast, so it can turn livelier than the sheltered bays when a northeast wind blows. Stronger swimmers are more comfortable here than young children.
