Kavourotrypes Beach
Best for. Early risers and late stayers who want the prettiest water on Sithonia and will trade the busy midday for a quiet hour.
Best spot. The smaller coves a short walk beyond the first parking, where the white rock frames the clearest, calmest pools.
Know this. The exclusivity here is the timing, not a club. By late morning in August the coves are full, so come before nine or after five, or take the space at Armenistis instead.
Kavourotrypes is the beach that launched a thousand postcards of Sithonia, and the reason is plain the moment you reach the first cove. The coast here breaks into a run of small bays, each a curve of pale sand held between low white rock that the wind and water have worn smooth and hollow, with pools of turquoise so clear they look lit from below. People reach for Maldives and Seychelles comparisons, and while that is the language of the brochure rather than the truth, the colour really is exceptional. This is the prettiest water on the peninsula, and on a calm morning it is close to faultless.
What it is not is a secret, and that is the part worth being honest about. Orange Beach, the best known of the coves, draws a steady stream through the day, and by late morning in high summer the small patches of sand are full and the parking above is a scrum. The thing that makes the place special, the smallness of each cove, is also what undoes it under pressure, because there is simply not much sand to go around. The quiet excellence here is not bought with a sunbed booking. It is earned by the hour you choose.
Come early, before nine, while the water is still glass and the first cove is yours, or come back for the late afternoon as the day trippers drift off and the light turns gold on the rock. Walk a little past the first bays and the smaller coves thin out further. If you want the same beauty with room to lay a towel and not think about it, the long sweep at Armenistis a few minutes south gives you the space these coves cannot, and the shallow turquoise at Karydi near Vourvourou is the gentler, family friendly cousin. Kavourotrypes rewards the visitor who treats it as a dawn or dusk pleasure rather than a place to park for the day.
Clubs on this beach
Kavourotrypes is a wild coves beach with seasonal bars rather than a polished club. For a reserved daybed and table service, look to the organised beaches of Kassandra. Operators and hours move with the season, so confirm before you set out.
Seasonal beach bar
The larger coves run a beach bar or two in season, with a handful of sunbeds and umbrellas for a long swim and a cold drink between dips. Operator and prices to be confirmed.
East coast, Sithonia
Kavourotrypes lies on the east coast of Sithonia, the middle finger of Halkidiki, a short drive north of Sarti and just south of Armenistis. Small signed tracks drop from the coast road to rough parking above the coves, and from there it is a short walk down over rock to the sand.
A car is the sensible way here, and the timing matters more than the route. Arrive early to claim a space and the glassiest water, or come for the late afternoon when the day visitors leave and the coves and the light are at their best.

Common questions about Kavourotrypes
Why is Kavourotrypes called Orange Beach?
The most photographed of the coves is widely known as Orange Beach, or Portokali in Greek, and over the years the name has come to stand in for the whole run of little bays. Kavourotrypes itself means burrows of crabs, a nod to the way the soft white rock is hollowed and sculpted into pockets along the shore.
Is Kavourotrypes worth visiting?
Yes, on the right terms. This is the most beautiful stretch on the east coast of Sithonia, a string of small sandy coves between sculpted white rock and water the colour of glass. The catch is that everyone knows it, so the reward goes to the visitor who arrives early or stays for the late afternoon rather than the one who turns up at midday in August.
Is there a beach club at Kavourotrypes?
Not a polished daybed club. The larger coves run on seasonal beach bars and a scatter of sunbeds, with operators and hours that change year to year and are best confirmed before you go. For a proper club day with a reserved bed and table service, the organised beaches of Kassandra are the better call, listed in the Halkidiki beach clubs guide.
How do you get to Kavourotrypes and where do you park?
The coves sit on the east coast of Sithonia between Armenistis and Sarti, reached by short tracks off the coast road that lead down to small rough parking areas above the rocks. The spaces fill early in high summer and the walk down to the water is on uneven ground, so sensible shoes and an early arrival both help.
Which cove at Kavourotrypes is the quietest?
The first coves nearest the parking fill first, so the calmer patches are the smaller bays you reach by walking a little further along the rock. None of them are large, so quiet here is a matter of the hour as much as the spot. Come before the late morning rush or after the day trippers leave and even the popular coves soften.
