This is the wild windward tip of Grenada, where the open Atlantic normally makes swimming a bad idea, but a coral reef runs parallel to the shore and takes the force of the ocean, leaving a calmer pool of water close in. That reef is the whole reason to make the trip, and it turns a stretch of rough coast into one of the few safe feeling swims in the north of the island.
For a value minded traveller this is a genuinely good day for almost nothing. The beach is free, the sand is broad and golden, and a run of sea grape trees behind it gives natural shade so you do not need to rent a thing. Public beach access at Bathway
The sand is open public beach, free to walk on and swim, reached straight off the north coast road near Sauteurs. There is no gate and no fee, but facilities are basic, so come self sufficient with water, shade and supplies for the day.
