This is a national marine park where no permanent structures are allowed on the protected beaches, where loungers cannot be rented on the sand and where access is capped and ticketed to keep the place pristine. Where you base a beach day is therefore a question of which open access beach has a bar, not which club has the best daybeds.

For a relaxed beach day with a drink in hand, base yourself at Praia da Conceicao or Cachorro, where the bars are, and save the wild park coves for the morning when the light and the water are best and the day visitors thin out. Book the Atalaia natural pool early because slots are few, go to the dolphin viewpoint at dawn, and remember the outer beaches can be rough, so check the tide and the swell before you swim. The daily environmental preservation tax is charged per day of stay and rises the longer you stay, and the national park ticket is a separate one off charge, more for foreign visitors than Brazilians, valid for several days and needed for the best protected beaches. Is Baia do Sancho really the best beach in the world?
By the most cited ranking, yes, it has won the global travellers choice best beach award several times, and in person it lives up to it, secluded, undeveloped, golden sand and vivid turquoise water with excellent snorkelling. The honest caveats are that best is a popularity award, you reach the sand by climbing steep cliff ladders through a crevice in the rock, and a strict daily visitor cap keeps it pristine, so it is stunning precisely because access is controlled.
Are there beach clubs or sunbeds to rent?
No, not in the usual sense. The protected park beaches allow no permanent structures, no lounger concessions and no clubs, so you carry in what you need and leave no trace. Which beaches need the park ticket and are any restricted?
The park ticket is required for the protected inner sea beaches and viewpoints, including Sancho, Baia dos Porcos, Sueste, Leao, the dolphin bay and Atalaia. Several carry extra rules, the dolphin bay is a viewpoint only with no swimming, Sueste requires a flotation vest for snorkelling, and Atalaia is reservation only, timed, guided and sunscreen free. Open access beaches like Conceicao and Cachorro need no park ticket, and you should book Atalaia early because slots are very limited.
When should I go, and will I see dolphins and turtles?
For the calmest, clearest water and the best snorkelling aim for the dry season from August to October, when visibility peaks, while December to March is surf season with big waves on the outer beaches and rougher swimming. Spinner dolphins appear almost every morning year round at the dolphin bay viewpoint, best seen at dawn, and green turtles are reliably seen snorkelling at Sueste, with nesting on Praia do Leao from around December to June.
