Bodrum keeps a clear Aegean rhythm. The beach season runs from May to October, the sea is warmest in late summer, and the crowds peak hard in July and August before easing into a beautiful, quieter September. The summers are hot and dry, far hotter than the Adriatic, and outside the season many beach clubs close while the sea turns too cool for a comfortable swim.
We have laid out the year month by month below, with a quick season grid and honest notes on the months that matter most. The headline is simple. June and September give you warm water, long days and far more space than the height of summer, with gentler heat too, which is why they are the months we point most people toward.
If you take one line from this page, take this. Aim for June or September for the best balance of warm sea, bearable heat and lighter crowds, accept July and August only if you want the warmest water and do not mind the heat and the crush, and remember the calmest swims on any day come in the morning before the meltem builds.

When each month earns its place
May. The opening of the season and one of the loveliest months for a quiet trip. The weather is warm and settled, the days are long and the peninsula is green and uncrowded, though the sea is only just warming and a swim still bites. For sightseeing the castle and the villages with the beaches near empty, May is a gem.
June. One of the two sweet spots of the year. The sea has warmed to a pleasant swimming temperature, the days are at their longest and the heat is hot but not yet fierce, while the crowds, though building, are nowhere near the August peak. Prices and pressure on the beaches are still reasonable, which makes June a superb all round time to come.
July. High summer, with hot, dry weather, warm sea and the busiest beaches of the year. This is when the afternoon meltem is most noticeable on the exposed, west facing bays, so plan calm swims for the morning and let the wind sports have the afternoon. Expect peak prices and heat, and book accommodation well ahead as the coast fills.
August. The hottest, busiest and priciest month, when the sea is at its warmest but the bays are packed with Turkish and European holidaymakers. The heat can be intense by day, so shade, water and an early start matter. It is a wonderful time to swim if you accept the crowds and the cost, but it is not the month for space or calm.
September. The other sweet spot and many travellers' favourite month. The sea is still warm from a summer of heat, the crowds thin noticeably after the August peak and the heat softens to something very pleasant. Beach clubs are still open through most of the month, making September the ideal blend of warm water, gentler weather and breathing room.
October. The season winds down, but early October can still surprise with warm enough water for a swim and mild, pleasant days. Crowds are light and prices fall, though rain becomes more likely as the month goes on. A fine choice for a quiet, mild trip that mixes a few beach days with sightseeing, if you are relaxed about the odd wet spell.

What is the best time to visit Bodrum?
June and September are the best months overall, pairing warm sea and long days with lighter crowds and gentler heat than the July and August peak. The sea is warmest in August and September, but the beaches and prices are at their height then. May and October are quieter and pleasant, though the sea is cooler at each end of the season.
When is the sea warm enough for swimming in Bodrum?
The sea is comfortably warm for swimming from about June to October, reaching its warmest in August and September. May can be swimmable for the hardy and October still pleasant early on, but the water is cooler at the edges of the season. From late autumn to spring the sea is generally too cold for an enjoyable swim.
Which months are the most crowded and expensive in Bodrum?
July and August are the busiest and priciest months, when Turkish and European holidays fill the bays, accommodation peaks and the popular beaches and clubs get very busy. If you can, travel in June or September for warm water with more space, or in May and October for quiet at the cost of a cooler sea.
What is the meltem wind and does it affect Bodrum beaches?
The meltem is a dry summer wind that often builds in the afternoon and can chop up exposed, west facing bays even on a clear day. It rarely stops a swim in a sheltered cove, but it does mean the calmest water comes in the morning and the wind sports come alive later. The sheltered south and southwest coves stay gentler through the day.
Is it worth visiting Bodrum outside summer?
For sightseeing, the castle, the old town and the peninsula villages, the shoulder months of April, May and October are mild, green and far less crowded. For beach days and swimming, though, you really want June to September, when the sea is warm and the beach clubs are open. Conditions are typical and never guaranteed.
