Antalya is a fine place for a family beach holiday, but the beaches that fill the postcards are not always the ones that work with young children. The headline coves to the west, the turquoise gorge at Kaputas above all, have the drama everyone photographs, yet they come with long flights of steps, limited room and water that deepens quickly. For an easy day with kids the better bet is the sandy resort beaches close to the city and the calm sheltered bays to the south, where the sand is soft, the water shelves gently and a sunbed, a shower and a cafe are a few steps away.

We have ranked these for a real beach day with children, weighing how soft the sand is, how shallow and calm the water, how short and flat the walk from the car and how good the facilities are. The standouts are the long sandy strips at Lara and Side and the quiet bay at Adrasan, all gentle and well served. We also flag the convenient city beach honestly, since Konyaalti is easy to reach but pebble underfoot, and we are clear that the spectacular coves are a sight to plan rather than an everyday swim with a toddler.

The ranking

Family beaches in Antalya

Scored on soft sand, gentle shallow water, easy flat access and facilities. Honest verdicts, the hard ones flagged.

1
Antalya city, east

Lara

The easiest family beach near the city. A long strip of soft golden sand lined with large hotels and Blue Flag stretches, gentle and shallow on many days, with sunbeds, showers and cafes on the doorstep. It is comfortable and convenient rather than wild, and busy in season, but for a sandy city beach with everything to hand it is the simplest choice with children.

2
East, Side

Side

Long sandy beaches either side of an old town full of Roman ruins, broad and soft with shallow water and plenty of facilities. Children get gentle sand and easy paddling, and there are ancient stones and a Temple of Apollo to keep older ones curious between swims. It is developed and busy, but the mix of soft sand and shallows makes an easy, rewarding base.

South, Lycian coast

Adrasan

A calm sandy and pebble bay tucked between green headlands near Olympos, quieter and more low key than the big resorts, with gentle water that suits a careful family swim. Simple pensions and tavernas line the back rather than high rises, and a gathering of gulet boats runs day trips. A relaxed, scenic choice when you want soft water away from the crowds.

South, by Olympos

Cirali

A long, quiet shore of sand and pebble below pine clad hills, a protected turtle nesting beach with a laid back village of small pensions rather than big resorts. The swim is calm and easy, there is some natural shade from the pines, and the ruins of Olympos and the eternal flames of the Chimaera give an easy half day for restless children. Low key and genuinely lovely.

5
Antalya city, west

Konyaalti

The convenient city beach with the best backdrop, a long pebble bay beneath the Beydaglari mountains, Blue Flag and organised with a promenade, sunbeds and cafes, easy to reach by tram. The surface is shingle and the entry can shelve quickly, so bring water shoes and keep little ones close, but for an easy swim with a mountain view near the old town it is hard to beat.

West, Kas to Kalkan

Kaputas

The postcard cove, a small beach of fine pebble and sand at the mouth of a gorge with almost unreal turquoise water. It is glorious to see, but reached by around 187 steps from the coast road, small and busy by midday, with water that deepens fairly quickly, so it is hard with toddlers and a lot to carry. Keep it as a sight seen early and swim on the gentler beaches above.

Who it suits, who should skip

If you want soft sand, gentle shallow water and a sunbed within a short flat walk, the sandy resort beaches at Lara and Side are an easy win for families. Both give you shelving water that lets children wade and paddle, plus showers, cafes and sunbeds close by, and Side adds ancient ruins to wander between swims. For a quieter day with the same gentle water, the sheltered bay at Adrasan and the pine backed shore at Cirali are calmer and more low key. Bring sun cover and start in the morning, because natural shade is scarce on much of the coast and the afternoon can bring a breeze that stirs the open beaches.

Who should skip what? The famous coves to the west are extraordinary to look at but not easy swims with small children. Kaputas means around 187 steps down to a small, busy beach, and Patara is a vast wild dune beach with deliberately limited facilities and little shade, wonderful for a special outing but a lot of work for a toddler day. Konyaalti is genuinely convenient but pebble, so pack water shoes. See the dramatic beaches as planned outings, save the everyday swim for the sandy resort strips and the calm southern bays, and let the morning give you the gentlest water of the day.

Where to book a daybed

All Antalya beach clubs

Family days run smoother with a booked base, and in Antalya that means an organised stretch with hired sunbeds, umbrellas and a cafe or restaurant rather than a party venue. The serviced sands at Lara and Side and the city bay at Konyaalti are the easiest places to reserve a front row of beds for the day, with food, showers and shade close to the sand. Tell us the beach and the dates and we will pass your enquiry to the operator so they can confirm space and any minimum spend, all of which are to be confirmed by season.

Good questions

Before you go

Which Antalya beach is easiest with young children?

The sandy resort strip at Lara and the long sandy beaches at Side are the easiest, with soft sand, shallow entry on many days and sunbeds, showers and cafes close by. The calm sheltered bay at Adrasan is the gentlest of the quieter choices. Konyaalti in the city is convenient by tram but pebbly, so pack water shoes. These are the natural bases for an easy family day in Antalya.

Are Antalya family beaches sandy or pebbly?

It is worth knowing before you go. Lara, Side and Patara are sandy, while Konyaalti in the city and much of the Kemer mountain coast are pebble and shingle, so water shoes help small feet. Adrasan and Cirali mix soft sand with some pebble. We flag the surface for each beach below so you can match it to bare feet and toddlers.

Do Antalya family beaches have shade and facilities?

The organised resort beaches at Lara, Side and Konyaalti have sunbeds and umbrellas to hire, showers and cafes along the promenade, and several carry Blue Flag status. Natural shade is limited, though the pine backed shore at Cirali offers some, so bring hats, sun cover and water whichever beach you choose. Lifeguard cover is typical on the busier Blue Flag stretches but is never guaranteed.

Is Kaputas beach suitable for children?

It is stunning but hard work with little ones. Kaputas is a small turquoise cove reached by around 187 steps down from the coast road, with limited room and water that deepens fairly quickly, so it is tiring with a pushchair and a toddler. See it early as a sight, then swim on the soft sand at Lara, Side or the calm bay at Adrasan for an easy family day.

Is the sea calm enough for children in Antalya?

The sheltered bays at Adrasan and Cirali are usually calm and gentle, which suits a careful family swim, while the open resort beaches can shelve more quickly and pick up afternoon breeze. Most beaches lack a lifeguard outside the main organised stretches, so swim in the calmer morning and supervise closely. We describe typical conditions only and never guarantee them.

When is the best time for a family beach day in Antalya?

May, June, September and October give warm sea and strong sun with lighter crowds and gentler heat than the very hot July and August peak, when the resorts are fullest and the midday sun is fierce for small children. The sea stays warm enough to swim into October. See our when to go guide for a month by month read. Conditions are typical and never guaranteed.
